What is SharePoint?
Microsoft SharePoint is a content management system or application used to create web portals for internal or external use and it was first released by Microsoft in 2001. It is used to store documents or communicate important organizational information to clients, employees vendors, and contractors. Microsoft has created multiple options for purchasing SharePoint. It can be available via an online subscription or purchase the license to set up your own servers.
What version of SharePoint are you using, SharePoint Online or on Prem?
SharePoint online, also known as Microsoft 365, formerly Office 365, is Microsoft’s version that does not require you to purchase your own server. The current online version is available as a subscription service. The other option currently available as of December 2021 is Office 2019, or the 2019 on-premise version of the application. Depending on the business needs, you may consider the subscription version or the on-premises version. When you purchase Microsoft Office 365, it also includes Microsoft Office tools such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Teams.

Microsoft Corporation offers SharePoint iOS and Android Apps for mobile devices. The mobile app experience provides additional benefits to the web app with advanced features such as the following:
- There is a ME tab to view recent items viewed
- Saved to see posts, news feeds, and files that are important and you saved
- Search bar to find people, files, or sites
- People to see people you work with
