Twitter has just announced their new Blue Subscription Service. This new service will be tested in Canada and Australia first. This subscription service will be paid and will offer users specific features only they can use. “A new undo send feature gives you the option of retracting tweets before they actually go live, and you can set a timer for undoing your tweets that can last up to 30 seconds. A Bookmark Folders feature lets you group saved tweets to make them easier to find later. “Reader Mode” lets you keep up with threads by “turning them into easy-to-read text” and mashing together tweets into one page. Other Twitter Blue features are purely aesthetic: it adds new color theme options as well as the ability to change the color of Twitter’s app icon.” The Verge. These Blue subscription members will also get upgraded customer service, meaning that their issues would be the first ones to get resolved over regular users.
Twitter has been reliant on advertising to make money with their app, but competition from Facebook and Instagram has made this more difficult and has resulted in the loss of some revenue. This will be the first paid subscription that Twitter offers in hopes of increasing this revenue and increasing user involvement.
